Both of my parents were born and raised in the Chicago area. A few years back I remember my mama talking about her love of this wet sandwich she use to eat there. I was intrigued and decided I must make this sandwich! After a few awful awful recipes later I decided I would do this on my own from her description. Well what I have here is pure heaven to me... Wet and tender, flavorful. Just thinking about it makes me want another one! Try it you might just fall in love. :)

Italian Beef Sandwich
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 - 3 lbs. rump roast
- 2 1/2 Tablespoons Italian salad dressing mix
- 3 cups beef broth
- 1 cup water
- 1 teaspoon basil
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 1/2 medium onion, diced or sliced
- 1/2 medium bell pepper, sliced (opt)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- salt & pepper, to taste
- french rolls
Cooking Directions
- *Combine all the above in a slow cooker/ crock pot. Cook on low for 7 to 8 hrs. When done shred with fork. Taste, if needed salt and/or pepper is needed.
- Serve in rolls and top with extra cooking juice. (In my opinion the more the better, I even dunk mine.) I also serve mine with a few peperoncini peppers.
Makes 6 to 10 sandwiches
