Fried Mozzarella Sticks

The big game is just around the corner and these little guys will sure be on our spread for it.  Fried cheese goodness, what's not to love? With this classic appetizer you just can't go wrong. :)

Fried Mozzarella Sticks

  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tablespoon milk
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 Tablespoon corn starch
  • 3/4 cup Italian bread crumbs
  • 1 Tablespoon italian seasoning
  • 2 Tablespoons parmesan cheese, grated & divided
  • salt & pepper, to taste
  • 5 mozzarella string cheese, cut in half ( or block mozzarella)
  • vegetable oil, for frying
  • marinara sauce, for dipping

Cooking Directions

  1. *In a small bowl whisk together egg and milk and set aside. In a medium bowl mix together flour and corn starch. In another medium bowl mix together bread crumbs, 1 tablespoon of Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper (a little garlic powder is great here too).
  2. Take a piece of cheese and coat with flour mixture, then dip in egg mixture and then roll in bread crumbs. Then dip in egg and bread crumbs again and place on plate. Repeat with remaining cheese. Refrigerate and let rest for 15 minutes. (Resting helps the breading stick better.)
  3. Heat vegetable oil over medium high heat or 350 degrees F in skillet or fryer. Let cheese sticks cook for about a minute or until golden. Remove from oil with tongs and let drain on wire racks, then garnish with more Parmesan cheese. Serve with marinara sauce.
